Cultivo

Big Idea:

Cultivo is an investment fund for nature-based solutions. They use data and satellite imagery to pinpoint projects with high conservation impact and high financial returns. They use a proprietary algorithm to help landowners estimate the value of the "natural capital" of their land, which includes everything from carbon offsets to protected species to secured livelihoods. They then package deals for investment based on that valuation to ensure money flows to protect and restore vital ecosystems and local communities.

Manuel is a nature advocate and a serial tech entrepreneur. During his PhD program at Imperial College, Manuel developed a sensor technology powered by harvesting energy from wireless transmissions. He also co-founded two ventures that built sensor-based Internet of Things products. Before he got the tech bug, 17-year old Manuel was scouted to be a professional MLB pitcher.
