Global Forest Watch

Big Idea:

Global Forest Watch, a program of World Resources Institute, keeps track of the world’s forests. They combine satellite data, cloud computing, and advanced algorithms to detect deforestation data in real-time. Their free, powerful information tool helps government, companies and civil society make decisions and take timely action to manage and protect forests.

Rachael works directly with decision-makers to create real change, and she spends a lot more time in the field with partners than she does at her desk in DC. She studied Anthropology and Public Policy at Rice University and has traveled the world to research how indigenous communities use technology to protect their resources.
