300 million African pastoralists eke out a living from small cattle herds. Without access to water, basic vet services, or sufficient grass, most animals die before sale—and there’s little incentive to manage grazing. The result is a vicious cycle of grassland degradation and poverty.
About Charlotte
Charlotte has worked on improving livelihoods for very poor Zambian communities for many years. She founded ZayoHub a few years ago, focusing on Zambia's most impoverished and climate-impacted region, and Mafisa grew out of that work. She loves Zambia's environment and rural spaces, and led the Communities portfolio on the Zambia Wildlife Authority board. She studied social and structural barriers to combat chronic poverty for her PhD too.
