Big Idea:
Community-led conservation in Tanzania

Ujamaa Community Resource Team (UCRT) protects the environment by improving livelihoods and governance amongst indigenous pastoralists in Northern Tanzania. UCRT supports legal tenure of communally owned lands and natural resources, and then helps communities sustainably manage and benefit from them.

Paine took over as Executive Director in 2020 after 10 years at UCRT. Among other roles, she worked as a field facilitator to launch and support women’s networks and women’s rights advocacy. Paine represented East Africa and Africa in the highest governing body of the International Land Coalition (The Global Council). She holds a Masters in Climate Change and Sustainable Development.
