Water Access Rwanda

Big Idea:
Community water grids in Rwanda.

Water Access Rwanda is on a mission to make clean water available to everyone. To do that, they design and construct water mini-grids that are simple and reliable. They offer financing to communities for construction of borehole-fed, solar-powered water mini-grids, then provide maintenance to keep the taps running. Their mobile payment system - which includes prepaid and pay as you go options - makes extension of piped water into private homes easier and more affordable. That means people consume more clean water and don’t have to waste time hauling water back from the community tap.

Christelle is a mechanical engineer and founded Water Access Rwanda a year before graduating. Before that, Christelle was a youth activist on several big platforms including at the African Union and the UN. She is a dynamo in Rwanda - she’s worked on multiple government commissions and has received lots of accolades including a Global Citizen Award and Africa Business Heroes award.
