Solar Freeze

Big Idea:
Solar powered cold storage in Kenya

Farmers work hard in wildly unpredictable conditions and can lose a lot (30-45%) of their harvest to spoilage en route to market. Solar Freeze increases profits for smallholder farmers through solar-powered cold storage units. They provide the freezer units, PAYGO software, tech support, microinsurance/microfinance, and market linkages, including crop transport.

Dysmus is the founder of both Solar Freeze and “Each One, Teach One - Train and Earn.” The latter is an initiative to build a next generation of leaders pushing for renewable energy for agriculture in Africa. Dysmus was a 2018 Echoing Green climate fellow, was in the inaugural Obama Foundation class, and an MIT Technology Access Inclusive Innovation winner.
