Fish Forever

Big Idea:

Nakul is an ocean engineer committed to implementing sustainable and scalable solutions that help people and nature thrive in coastal communities. Prior to joining Rare, Nakul spent several years at the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company where he led the Oceans & Fisheries service. Having spent his formative years in Mauritius, and further traveled the globe for work (and pleasure), Nakul has cemented his lifelong commitment to help protect the world’s oceans and all life dependent upon them.

Small-scale fisheries make up 50% of the world’s fish catch and provide food security to many of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities. Fish Forever is a program designed to protect marine habitats and restore small-scale fisheries. Fish Forever partners with coastal communities to implement a proven sustainable fisheries management technique, which puts the resource management in the hands of its users. Additionally, Fish Forever combines this approach with sophisticated marketing that engages the entire community in changing attitudes and behaviors towards their fisheries. This means: more fish in the water, more money for fishers, increased climate resilience, improved food security and better-protected biodiversity. There are currently +40 Fish Forever projects currently running across five countries.
