Big Idea:

Since the tectonic plates crashed together, the world’s mountain habitats have mostly remained intact. Recently, people have begun to move up slopes for food, timber and other valuable resources. Legado (“Legacy” in Portuguese) was born in the peaks of Mozambique to protect isolated and biodiverse mountain ecosystems in Africa. At their flagship Mount Namuli site, Legado is proving that desirable conservation agreements can secure a vibrant future for both critical mountain tops and the people who depend on them.

Majka is a professional climber, author, filmmaker and social entrepreneur. She is an ambassador/athlete for top outdoor companies including Patagonia, Petzl, and Julbo.
