Simon Graffy

80% of children in African primary schools can’t read by age 10. Teachers don't have the right training and resources to meet every child in their classroom's needs. We know structured pedagogy works — stuff like clear lesson plans, good materials, and training on how to use them. Simple technology can support teachers and children alike.

The Mission

Foundational literacy and numeracy for every child.

How It Works

Inspiring teachers creates easy to use materials for teachers and then trains them to deliver better lessons. They combine their materials with a smartphone app which helps teachers and supervisors understand which students are struggling and how to help them. They put that school level data into an easy to understand dashboard so district staff can better support the highest-need schools.

The Dream

Ministries of Education use structured pedagogy and data to support schools, teachers, and students to make sure every child reaches foundational numeracy and literacy. Start-up costs are paid by philanthropy while government covers the ongoing operating expenses.

Why We Picked Simon

Simon is a former teacher and nerds out on teacher development and global education. Their early impact results are promising and put them near the top of education interventions worldwide. They're already delivering their program in 80 schools in Ghana and are rapidly expanding across the country. They're out to prove you can deliver world class teacher support at low cost and make sure every child achieves foundational numeracy and literacy.
