Ira Guha

Over a billion women can’t get basic period care—either it’s unavailable or unaffordable. Many resort to unsafe substitutes like plastic pads, which put their health at risk and keep them from fully participating in school and work.

Mission

Safe and affordable period care for every woman.

How it Works

Asan created a high quality, affordable period cup. To reach rural areas, they distribute these cups through employers, often factories or small businesses. Asan trains local, trusted women to teach other women in their community on how to properly use the cup, resulting in safe and affordable period care.

The Dream

Businesses like Asan create high-quality, affordable period cups which reach the 1 billion women worlwide without access to safe period care. The cups are paid for either by women themsleves or by their employers.

Why We Picked Ira

Period care solutions for women are often low-quality and expensive. When new solutions arise, such as the period cup, they will only be adopted and used for the long-run if women trust the messenger. Ira witnessed this problem first-hand in India and this drove her to design the first Asan cup while she was at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard; today, they've already delivered 100K+ cups.  We're excited about Ira's ability to blend a world class product with the operational chops to deliver it to the most rural places
