Why we invest

Too many people in rural Africa drink unsafe water. Remote rural villages are often ignored because providing clean water there seems too tough or too expensive. Families end up sick because they drink unsafe water and lose valuable productive time. And access to safe water should be a basic right.

Saha has come up with a model that mimics modern utilities. They operate an entire rural region as a network, setting up operations in each community that reflect specific local conditions and needs. Their model adapts to a wide range of existing sources and infrastructure; they sell water at a cost everyone can afford, and they’re able to reach communities no one else can. They maintain systems and regularly monitor for both availability and safety.

Saha’s water utility model taps into the government's mandate to deliver safe water to everyone. It can get a lot more clean water to families at a much lower cost and can be integrated into government water operations. If Saha can serve last mile communities, subsidized by government contracts, it can open the market to a lot more players.
