Get out-of-school kids back on track.
Catch-up School is a ten-month program of what Lumino calls “joyful learning.” It’s intensive—small classes, long days, and heavy focus on foundational skills. It’s also playful—learning is activity-based and classrooms are lively. Ongoing assessments alert teachers to kids who need extra help and parents are brought into the mix in a way unheard of in public education. More important even than fundamental skills, kids learn how to learn.
Catch-up programs are integrated into public school systems across Africa—and beyond.
The Luminos approach gets remarkable results at a remarkably low cost: 90% of kids jump three grade levels at a cost a third of a single year of government schooling. Now Luminos is working to embed Catch-up School into government education in multiple countries—Ethiopia is already providing Catch-up School for 80,000 kids a year. Luminos has consistently under-promised and over-delivered. They’ve got a culture of rigor and iteration—and a really big idea.
