Cinch

African farms are too small—0.6 hectares on average—to make a decent living, while at the same time land sits idle because farmers don’t have the incentives or resources to invest in their farms.

The Mission

Boost farmer incomes.

How It Works

Cinch leases land from smallholders, creating "mosaic farms" that are big and contiguous enough for high-productivity farming. With bigger farms they can invest in irrigation and equipment, plant higher-value crops, and sell to better markets. The land is much more productive and farmers make more money with less work.

The Dream

Mosaic farming businesses boost farm productivity and farmer incomes across Africa.

Why We're In

People can't get out of poverty on an acre, and highly fragmented land is unproductive. Land aggregation that benefits smallholders is a big idea—a creative solution with real potential for scale. Their business model is gaining traction, but it's very early. It's hard to access capital with a new idea in a tough market, but they have solid growth and strong momentum.
