Kheyti designed an affordable greenhouse for smallholder farmers that increases crop yields and profits, while helping them use far less water and adapt to a changing climate. Kheyti designs, produces, sells, and installs the greenhouses. To help farmers get the most out of their greenhouses—and pay for them—they provide ongoing agronomy services to optimize yields.
An affordable greenhouse industry serving smallholder farmers across India and beyond, subsidized by governments where necessary.
Affordable greenhouses are one of the few promising agricultural innovations in a time of climate change and water shortages. Kheyti has managed to get the cost down, but broad uptake will require a subsidy. The Indian government already offers subsidies for other products—fertilizer, equipment, etc—that benefit farmers. Recently, Kheyti has gotten government funded pilots going in three states. Success there could lead to an enormous expansion of the addressable market.
